Welcome to our FAQ page!

We understand that there may be many questions when trying to decide if you should take the leap into a new product. Therefore, we are open to questions of all kinds. To make it easier for our customers, we have complied a list of FAQs below. If after reading this list, you still have unanswered questions about our ecologically clean kitchen products, please contact us directly so that we can better assist you.

Where do you source the wood you use for your products?

All of our kitchen items are made from sustainable wood products. Our products are sourced and manufactured in Chilli, Nicaragua, Columbia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.

How do you counter act the removal of trees for your products?

Because we use sustainable woods and even grass such as bamboo; we are helping to replenish the world’s forests and conserve the landscape that we have been given. Oak and maple have been used for decades in kitchenware. However, they are also known to be one of the biggest contributors to deforestation. We are very conscious of this and have pledged to not use them in our products.

If you don’t use plastic to wrap and ship your products, what do you use?

Many companies still use plastic to wrap their products. Whether it is for local or international shipping purposes, it is common to have so much plastic wrap that it’s often a challenge to remove it. And then what happens to all that wrapping? It gets thrown in the trash. What many people don’t realize however is that plastics are often dumped and not recycled into new objects. Because they can take hundreds or even thousands of years to decompose, plastic products and packaging is slowly suffocating the earth. Hence why we adopted a no waste manufacturing policy! We choose only natural and sustainable items in our products and to wrap our products. Things like banana leaves are one of our favorites! This has been done in Asia for years. Banana leaves are a strong material that protects products from damage and they are decomposable at the same time. They are a great alternative to plastic wrapping ad one that we are happy to bring to our customers!

Are your products formaldehyde free?

Yes, they are. We are committed to using all-natural products from start to finish with all our kitchen items. This means avoiding the use of formaldehyde and other toxic substances. As formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and its emissions are toxic, we never use it. We make sure that all our products are free of this harmful substance.

    What about glue?

We are committed to using adhesives of natural materials to bond our wood products together. Most often it is the natural glue derived from banana leaves that we use to bond our kitchenware products.

How should your products be cleaned?

Cleaning wooden kitchen items is actually very easy. All you need is a bit of soap and hot water. Be sure to rinse and wipe clean. Things like cutting boards can be maintained by sprinkling a coarse salt on the surface of the bard and then rubbing it in with a slice of lemon. This is a natural disinfectant that will keep it clean and fresh for years. Rinse with hot water when you are done and dry. You’re ready to chop again!

For tougher jobs or for items that are used in the commercial sector; we have a specially formulated “Made in America” cleaner that is specific to wood surfaces.

Is the wood protected? If so with what?

All of our products come with either no finish at all (listed on the product) or a natural finish that is derived from food grade mineral oil.

Will your wood products warp with water?

All wood products will be affected if exposed long term to water or heat. However, we use wider planks of wood and natural banana glue to adhere products like bamboo, together. It is not advised to put your wooden kitchenware in the dishwasher as it could crack due to the high heat. These products can last a lifetime if properly taken care of. Other wood products like acacia and coconut wood are less susceptible to cracking and warping however all-natural wood products could be damaged if not properly cared for.

Will your wood products absorb liquids and smell?

Because we do not use harsh materials or toxic chemicals in our products there are no off-gassing smells on new products. If you find that your items start to smell after use, a simple scrub down with lemon or baking soda and water will eliminate any left-over food smells.

Our cleaners and mineral oil will also help prevent these issues. A great tip that comes from professional chefs is to run your knife against your wooden cutting board after each use. This scraping will not only remove the debris and left-over food but also a light layer of wood. This is similar to exfoliating your skin; it allows for the mineral oil to be absorbed on a deeper level, truly moisturize and protect for longer.

How do I care for my board?

Taking good care of wooden kitchen products is simple. Clean as detailed above and use the lemon and baking soda as needed. Another important aspect to upkeep of wooden kitchen products is oiling them. Oiling keeps the wood healthy, prevent cracks and dryness from occurring. It will also ensure that liquids do not get absorbed. Check out our “Made in America” cleaner HERE àlink to product page for this item
